| Translation | Likewise, when Hannibal and Hasdrubal, Carthaginian leaders, were in Italy with a large army, the Romans sent against them two leaders, in charge of two large armies, who arranged matters so cleverly that they prevented the two Carthaginian armies from being able to make contact. If that had been possible, it would have ruined most of the Romans. But they arranged for their own two to join together one night, without making any noise, before the day that they were to give battle to one of those Carthaginian armies; thus it was defeated. |
